Sunburst

Morning sun bursting through the trees as the mist clears over Blackdown, the highest point of the South Downs.

Heavenly light

When the sun rises through the morning mist it creates heavenly rays of light that trees seem to capture more than anything else. This winter scene was captured as I stood in Petworth, West Sussex and watched the dawn light display its glory over the landscape.

Mist

A misty start to the day in Petworth, West Sussex. I love the layers created by the rolling landscape in the South Downs, and I was drawn to the wonderful little hole in the tree trunk.

Fire in the sky

As the sun rose over the mountains that surround Loch Carron, in the highlands of Scotland, I was drawn to the dawn rays that shot out through the valleys as shafts of red light, like a fire in the distance.

Lindisfarne Castle

A long exposure of Lindisfarne Castle, taken during the evening golden hour in summer. The setting sun was creating these beautiful pink colours in the sky, and the long exposure really allows those colours to stretch out with the clouds. The wind was strong and so I had to shield my tripod from being blown around whilst I took the shot.

Pilgrim's Walk

The stakes in the sea floor will lead to back to the mainland safely from the Holy Island of Lindisfarne when the tide recedes.

Butt of Lewis Lighthouse, Isle of Lewis

This is officially the windiest place in Europe, on the trip of the Isle of Lewis. Looking north, the next stop is Iceland so it's right on the edge of Britain. The day that I visited to photograph this iconic place it was completely tranquil, with a soft evening light casting its light on the rocks below where I stood.

Honey tones

A gentle walk along the coastal path at Heartland in North Devon is good for the soul. This summer time sunset gave off honey tones that mixed with the flowers and rocks to create a wonderful glow of gold.

Softly

Soon after dawn in a South Downs forest I was rewarded for my wait in near darkness for the sun to rise. For just a few fleeting moments the soft rays of light washed over the forest floor, which was thick with autumn leaves that glowed red and orange in the sunlight. A perfect start to the day.
