Puffin with eyes closed

It's rare to see photos of Puffin's with their eyes closed. I photographed this one on Staple Island, Northumberland. The Puffin was standing on a rock with his catch in his mouth and as I closed the shutter he happened to blink. I love the colour of his eye lids.

Dunstanburgh Dawn

Dawn light over Dunstanburgh Castle, Northumberland. This is a windy stretch of the coastline with waves crashing against the bank as you walk along the route to the castle. I stood on an unusually calm morning before sunrise and shot this long exposure to allow the clouds to stretch out in the frame.

End of the line

The causeway crossing to Lindisfarne in Northumberland is completely covered by the North Sea twice a day. Many people have lost their cars by ignoring the tide times, having to wait in the safety hut whilst their cars get washed out to sea. I took this shot just after sunset when the whole area was glowing with the after glow of the beautiful sunset.

Pilgrim's Walk

The stakes in the sea floor will lead to back to the mainland safely from the Holy Island of Lindisfarne when the tide recedes.

Bamburgh

It was a grey, rainy and windswept evening with no chance of a sunset at Bamburgh, Northumberland. But anyone who has spent a lot of time watching the weather around the British coast knows that changes happen very quickly, and without warning the sun fleetingly burst through a dark raincloud to produce some magical light and a stunning rainbow. From my elevated position on the sand dunes at Bamburgh beach I looked out towards the Farne Islands and soaked it all up.
