Morning sun bursting through the trees as the mist clears over Blackdown, the highest point of the South Downs.

Blackdown is the highest point of the South Downs National Park, and early one morning I stood waiting for the sun to rise out of the morning mist and cloud - for just a couple of minutes the sky was on fire.

Softly

Soon after dawn in a South Downs forest I was rewarded for my wait in near darkness for the sun to rise. For just a few fleeting moments the soft rays of light washed over the forest floor, which was thick with autumn leaves that glowed red and orange in the sunlight. A perfect start to the day.

Mist

A misty start to the day in Petworth, West Sussex. I love the layers created by the rolling landscape in the South Downs, and I was drawn to the wonderful little hole in the tree trunk.
